Kara Jones is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) with a master's degree in School Counseling from Evangel University. She is under the supervision of Margaret Skidmore, LPC, NCC. In addition, Jones holds a board certification in Mental Health Coaching through AACC (The American Association of Christian Counseling).
Several of Jones' passions are experiencing new things and spending time with her dog. She also is a fitness instructor where she enjoys using her love for movement and dancing as her own therapy.
Jones worked three years in a school setting working with behavioral and emotional needs of students grade K-12. She used play therapy and worked with kids on coping skills through a variety of life's difficulties. Jones is a 9 ½ year cancer survivor and works with cancer patients and survivors using her pain for purpose.
My goal in counseling is to create a comfortable space for my clients. I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) in sessions and focus on the misconceptions the client has believed while focusing on new positive ways of thinking. My counseling sessions focus on areas of the client’s life that are out of balance and how to apply tools to each and every area of life to enable the client to feel more balanced.
I welcome female clients who have struggled with body image and purpose. I have experience with children who have behavioral challenges and in helping them learn social skills through play therapy and activities. My personal experience with cancer helps me in working with those who are going through or have finished treatment with cancer. As a survivor, I hope to be a beacon of hope during and after the struggle and using the struggle to move forward.
I also offer faith based counseling for anyone who prefers faith to be used in sessions.
Life is a journey not a destination. The process is important both in counseling and in life.
